DAILY PATH

Trace your steps through your daily routine, from the moment you wake up.  What do you notice? Is there a blank wall you avert your eyes from, a corner you bump into, something you have to move out of the way to reach something else?

Busy lifestyles and habits have a way of dulling our sensitivity to what’s right in front of us. What do you see, and what have you stopped seeing in your space?

Set aside some time to walk through your daily path slowly. Consider, with curiosity, the details of where you walk from the moment you get up to start your day. Experience it slowly, without judgement.  What do you see, what do you step on, what do you feel or reach for?

Become aware of what you notice and what comes up for you. Do you feel yourself wanting to rush? Take a mental or written inventory of your experience and findings. Resist the urge to make immediate changes - you do not need to “fix” everything all at once. This moment is valuable research.

Ideas of what to look for…

Is the walkway clear?

Do you have to step around anything or squeeze through anywhere?

What do you see? Are you looking at door jams or blank walls?

Do the doors open smoothly or do they squeak? Do they get stuck or have to be pushed or jostled to open or close?

Is there something broken or dirty that you’ve stopped seeing?

Afterwards…

Jot down your findings, including a quick note of what it meant to you. Make a list of these everyday joys and projects.

Are you are satisfied with the experience of that path you walk each day?

Did you notice anything that stood out to you?

Did you discover something unexpected?

Did you rediscover something delightful? Something you want to make time for?

Did an idea or dream of something come up?

How do you feel about your discoveries?

Allow the insight to unfold to you.
